Former Bungie devs reveal their new studio's first game, Fallen Frontier

Life after Bungie is looking good for the team at indie studio Moonshot Games. This Tuesday, the former Halo-developers revealed their first game, Fallen Frontier; a 2D sci-fi sidescroller that looks to be a solid debut title.

The game tells the tale of a “jaded lawman from Earth” who heads to a rough-and-tumble district of space called Alpha Centauri on a quest to right a few mysterious wrongs. Judging by the trailer alone, Fallen Frontier appears to be a mix of Shadow Complex's moves, Metroid's spirit, Blade Runner's style with a bit of Halo's aesthetics. Check it out:

Following the announcement, Moonshot Games posted a brief Q&A telling fans they're hoping to release Fallen Frontier for Steam, XBLA and PSN sometime in the first half of 2012. For now, they invite anyone in the Boston area to try the game out themselves this week at Moonshot Studio's booth during PAX East (booth number 759, if that helps).

Can't make it? Maybe a few pics from today's fresh batch of concept art will fill the void:

For all the people who like the metroidvania style, good, good for you. But what most of the Halo fans were looking for was probably not a 2D sidescroller. Also, internets flash games.

OMFG, the split screen switch was so natural I had to rewind to figure out what happened. Kind of meh beyond that, I can get this kind of experience with a flash browser game.

I'm a sucker for these types of games. Speaking of which... WHERE THE HELL IS MY SHADOW COMPLEX 2??

Why won't videos on this site work for me? I have the newest updates and everything :(

Looks like a flash game although the sudden switch to split-screen looked cool.

Reminds me of Madness Interactive the flash game. In a good way! This thing looks great. If a little floaty.

Thank you for sharing this ^^ It looks a lot like Abuse, to be honest, a game Bungie helped with a while ago. =P The announcement makes me ecstatic ^^

That art is drop-dead gorgeous. And hey, if a game has sweet artistic design, I'm game.

I say otherwise! I didn't notice any similarities between this and halo until I watched the trailer a second time and even then they were small similarities. It looks more like shadow complex than anything to me. I think the game industry needs more games like this, more in the 2D metroidvania style. I'm looking forward to it.

The artwork is so fucking halo it's unreal. Try harder folks.

I was pretty intrigued by this until I watched the video, it seems like they took too many elements from Halo. The story, art direction, and soundtrack all seem just a little to familiar to me at the moment. That and the gameplay looks like a flash version of Shadow Complex. Of course there is still plenty of time between now and the release but I don't think I've ever felt so uninterested in a game.

Although I will admit that the concept artwork is testicle-shrivelingly beautiful.

I can play that game on my browser for free. It's called Heli Attack 3. Colour me uninterested.

    Looks shiny, captain.
