First trailer for Mike Newell's Great Expectations

The first trailer for Great Expectations has arrived online, with Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes stealing the show as Miss Havisham and Magwitch respectively.

Adapted from the classic novel by Charles Dickens, Jeremy Irvine plays Pip, a young orphan who is besotted with Estella (Holliday Grainger), the niece of local crackpot Miss Havisham. Upon reaching adulthood, Pip is elevated to sudden wealth by an unknown benefactor, only to find himself shunned by his long-standing love and her manipulative aunt.

Meanwhile, there is the return of the convict Magwitch to contend with, a rough, bedraggled figure with whom Pip shared a terrifying childhood experience…

Take a look at the new trailer below…

Fiennes and Bonham Carter look to be having a whale of a time as the story's more grotesque characters, while there's also an impressive supporting cast in attendance, including Robbie Coltrane, Jason Flemyng and Sally Hawkins.

Directed by Mike Newell from a script by David Nicholls, Great Expectations will open in the UK on 30 November 2012.
