First in-game footage of DiRT Showdown is literally smashing

Codemasters' crash-fest appears to be shaping up nicely

Words: on January 27, 2012

Codemasters has released the first footage of their upcoming DiRT Showdown and it's looking even better than when we went hands-on with it a while back. The gameplay debut video shows off the Nevada 8 Ball track - a course that crosses in the middle via a massive ramp that will no doubt create aerial collisions of epic proportions. Looky here...

Pretty good, eh? DiRT Showdown is released May 2012.

C'mon, guys. If you don't know how to use the word, "literal", then just don't use it. The footage itself isn't physically smashing anything. It's displaying things being smashed. You could say, "This footage is literally streaming!", or, "This footage is literally being displayed!".

Oops...the demolition derby track WAS in GRiD... And I call myself a Codemasters fan...

Although I did enjoy the demo derby track from DiRT 2, I can't appreciate the direction they are taking here. It wasn't that long ago that we had a game called Colin McRae: DiRT. To me, the name Codemasters evokes terrific rally racing. DiRT Showdown sounds more appropriate for an XBLA release. It would certainly help emphasize this split that is apparently occurring within the brand. I pity the poor rally DiRT fan that picks up DiRT Showdown at his local retailer expecting a traditional DiRT game (remember, they've been through 3 games in the series and expectations have been established).

Me? I'm looking forward to DiRT 4 and the rally racing within. I may give DiRT Showdown a pass.
