E3 2011: Luigi’s Mansion 2 announced for 3DS

Poor Luigi, he launched the GameCube with a cute game that nobody gave a chance. Sure it wasn’t the Mario launch game everyone wanted, and it got the GC off to a poor start, but Luigi's Mansion was a cool concept. Everyone thought it was the last time Luigi would star in his own game, that he’d never be free of Mario’s shadow. Then, in the shocking opening to the Nintendo press conference, Luigi’s Mansion 2 was revealed.

Looking very similar to the decade-old original, Weegee’s sucking up to ghosts all over a mansion, though we also spotted a mummy-filled crypt. Despite its familiar looks, it’s an entirely new game, with multiple mansions to explore. Perhaps Luigi will at long last strike out on his own.

I'm truely only getting the 3DS for this, as Luigi's Mansion 1 is easily the game I beat the most, with 38 play throughs. Thats a lot. I loved that game to death.

Wow, I just realized the first game came out a decade ago. I feel old.

I love the idea of another Luigi's Mansion, but judging from that screen, It looks a tad... dare I say it? ...phoned in. I need to see the vid for this, it doesnt look like the screen does it justice.

beating the first one was the first time ive ever actually screamed in pure joy while playing a game. i will buy a 3DS for the sole purpose of Luigi's Mansion. i love that game more than any other Mario game. even more than sunshine. speaking of witch, if Nintendo announces Super Mario Sunshine 2, i will foam at the mouth and laugh manically.

This made E3 for me. I am a major fan of the first Luigi's Mansion and i'm glad that Nintendo is giving it the sequel it deserves. This alone might just push me to get a 3DS.

Luigi will be free of Mario's shadow once he stops being an easily scared pussy! Jumping at every suspicion that there is a ghost isn't hero material.

I advise everyone that owns a 3DS to go to the eShop and download this trailer as well as the other ones. They look spectacular in 3D.

I gave the first one a chance, and I loved it. So glad (as I can see in the comments section) I'm not alone in wanting another one. Can't wait!

i'm okay with LM, but i'm curious... when did luigi become the foil to mario? when did he become this weak frightened guy? i don't mind that he has a distinct personality. in my opinion it actually is more defined and well rounded than mario but... when did this happen? did i miss something?
  • EvidentDead - June 7, 2011 6:41 p.m.

I will never understand any hate the first Luigis Mansion got on the Gamecube. Its certainly one of my favorite games on the 'Cube, and I am so excited to get the sequel. Really wanting a 3DS now.

I had fun with the first, still haven't gotten around to getting a 3ds though yet. I am just too damn cheap
