Dead Space Ignition announced for XBLA and PSN

EA and Visceral Games have announced a downloadable prequel to Dead Space 2 which will be available this fall on XBLA and PSN. The game, Dead Space Ignition, was actually teased yesterday with a Dead Space 2 image which contained the subtitle in Unitology text. Of course, when we reported on that image (below), we didn't yet know what "ignition" referred to.

Ignition will be an "interactive comic-style game" which both introduces the storyline to new players and sets up the events of Dead Space 2. The game is described as a "unique 'Choose Your Own Adventure' type narrative" combined with three hacking mini-games: Hardware Crack, Trace Route and System Override. Why they use the word "unique" to describe the preexisting "Chose Your Own Adventure" genre isn't quite clear.

The game is written by Antony Johnston, the award-winning writer of comics, games, books and other such things who also wrote the Dead Space comics back in 2008. Since, aside from the mini-games, Ignition is interactive fiction, its success will probably rely almost entirely on the quality of the writing. Johnston is good, so it could work, but if it doesn't, you at least get special Dead Space 2 unlocks for beating it, like an exclusive suit for Isaac. So there's that!

this seems cool as long as it isn't too expensive, i'll probably buy it no matter what, I thought they'd put extraction out sooner or later too.

Well, that sound a bit shit, don't it now? DS is about shooting the bits off necromorphs and point and click/choose you own adventure with bloody hacking minis is NOT what its about. I'ma go let other people play it and then ask 'em what the story was unless, amazingly, it turns out a million times better than it sounds right about now. Right, I'm off to laugh at the WoW babies who're too scred to let anyone know what their actual names are in case it stops them being wankers to people just starting out -must be the only way these fools can feel good about themsevles! Hopefully the, brilliant, Blizzard move makes the community a lot more matey as, and I fully believe this after leaving twice myself and knowing at least thirty others who did the same because of either elitist dicks abusing them or, in my case, others around them just for not having played as long as they had! Sure, it's a massively successful game but I reckon they could make a lot more even than they currently do if it was a more inclusive and less wanker filled community. Sorry for the off topic rant peeps.

That's a bit of a disappointing teaser. I don't really know what I was hoping for but it's at least something. It better not be 15 bucks though.
