Blizzard: Diablo III would suit consoles

Blizzard has told us that of all its franchises, Diablo is the one that would most suit a port to console.

And with the release of Diablo III on the horizon next year, the studio won't rule out the possibility that the title could end up on PS3 and Xbox 360 - even though it's not actively "pursuing" a multiplatform release. Which is a shame. Because we want one.

Speaking exclusively to CVG at Gamescom, Blizzard's Jay Wilson told us that the developer was "focused on the PC game first and foremost."

He added: "I'd be lying if I said we never talk about it, but it's not something we're pursuing right now. I do agree that of all our titles, Diablo would be the easiest to bring over - mainly because of the controls."

Blizzard released a host of new screens and details on Diablo III's new Caravan followers yesterday.

Would any of you play it on a console?

It could work, yes. Hell, the first time I played "Champoins of Norrath: Return to Arms" on PS2 my brain essentially said "Holy shit, this is JUST like Diablo!!"

This would be cool. I would probably still play it on PC just because i played the previous games on PC (not that you could actually play D2 on consoles). It would allow those of us with 360s/PS3s and sub-par PCs the ability to play, though i don't think there is a large enough audience beyond that to bring in extra revenue. Also, there might be a large number of people who just don't know what Diablo is, and the fact that Diablo 1 and 2 aren't available on curent-gen consoles really hinders that.

That would be amazing. I really want to play Diablo III, but my PC isn't that powerful. Either way I will get it but it would be great on consoles.

I don't have a PC powerful enough to play Diablo III and therefor can't play it whether or not I want to. However I do want to play it, it looks like a great game and if it was ported to PS3 then I could play it.

Make the pointer controls go towards analog and the commands hotkeyed then this could definitely work. Also agreeing with what pepheb said. PC version will always be superior.

i would definatly play it... i was a big fan and palyer of diablo 2 and i dont think it being on a console will make it worse.... unless its on wii then it would suck

I'm fine with Diablo coming to consoles... as long as it doesnt delay the pc version (aka they release the console versions later) since I think we've all been waiting for the game since it was announced...

Well, the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games are pretty solid proof in my mind that this genre can more than work on the consoles. (Actually, because it was on the PS2, it was the game of choice for a while for me and a buddy of mine.) I'd still generally prefer playing it on the PC, especially if the people I play with can get it as well, but yeah, sure, it can definitely work. Starcraft and World of Warcraft however are different stories. The former has way too fast of a pace to work with console RTS controls (though the thought of people trying is an amusing one) and the latter is simply too complex for serious play without a mouse and keyboard. (If you don't play, trust me...just watch someone who does, and you'll see.)

I had the "pleasure" of playing Diablo for the PS1... and it was awful. However, in this day and age of motion controls, I still say that games predominately made with mouses in mind would fit the control scheme of say, the PS Move or the next Nintendo HD console that is inevitable. Think about it, the "pointer" on the screen would be basically the "mouse" and all of the buttons could be quick keys like what the PC versions have. Sometimes... I wish my brain could make a game out of thin air -_-
