BAFTA posts Audience Award nominees

The shortlist of nominees for the British Academy Video Games Awards' (BAFTA) GAME Audience Award is out, and it looks like this year is going to be a fanboy bloodbath.

Ten nominees have been shortlisted for the people's choice honor. They include Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Fifa 12, L.A. Noire, Minecraft, Portal 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

Other than the reprehensible Duke Nukem snub, BAFTA's list appears on par with public opinion, including GR's own 2011 picks. Now, BAFTA is asking the public to vote on their number one favorite from the entire group, with the winner to be announced during the BAFTA ceremony on March 16. Those who register their selection on BAFTA's website will be entered to win a Limited Edition Star Wars Xbox 360 system with Kinect.

“The BAFTA GAME Award is an award we are particularly proud of as it gives our customers the chance to make their opinion heard,” said Anna-Marie Mason with GAME, a UK video game retailer. “This year’s shortlist is really exciting and we would like to encourage every GAME customer to vote for their favorite game – we can’t wait to see the final result!”

Call of Duty: Blacks Ops took the Audience Award for 2010. Let us know if you think the Call of Duty series should get the title this year, or if there's another game that deserves the trophy.

If Skyward Sword doesn't win I'll have officially lost all faith in humanity on the Internets. GR giving that dildo launcher gangster game a 10 started this spiral of BS and let's just hope somewhere out there sanity and a drop of maturity isn't completely lost.

C'mon, Batman: Arkham City was AMAZING. It should have AT LEAST the same chance of winning.

Wait COD won last year over Red dead,Mass effect 2 and Galaxy 2? Black ops was cool but REALLY? Meh, atleast the nominees got in the list. Skyrim,Portal 2, Skyward Sword,Batman, and Uncharted 3 gets my support, either one the winner.

COD won the two before that as well, meaning that every one of the three "GAME award of 20**"s has been won by a COD game. There was another award that came down to public votes under a different title in 2007 that wasn't won by a COD game, but I don't have a great feeling COD will be left with 'only' three in a row. Of course, my support will go to most of the other games on the list as well. Played L.A.Noire, Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Skyward Sword, Portal 2 and Minecraft, (Oddly not Skyrim just yet) and all of the games mentioned in this paragraph should logically surpass COD, with the odd exception.

No Dark Souls? L.A Noire. Wow

Call of Duty should never be eligible for a GOTY, it's just the same thing every year and there's no need for it, there is nothing "amazing" or "groundbreaking" in this year's COD title that wasn't in last years and won't be in next.

I don't see why CoD being popular in a fan vote is surprising. It is one of the most popular series ever put out and has millions of devoted fans. This is the BAFTA Audience Award, not the Most innovative game of the year competition.

Voted for Skyward Sword! But these are all great games here that deserve the award. The field is tricky tho: Battlefield 3 and COD will hurt each others votes, Portal 2 and Minecraft should vie for a similar audience, Uncharted 3 and Batman probably share part of the same crowd too. Skyrim could take it, but there might be enough fans pissed off on how broken the game has been to stave off a win. LA Noir and Fifa are outside chances, but never count out the world's love for soccer. And of course every Nintendo/Zelda fanboy (myself included) are gunna hammer this thing for a Skyward Sword victory.

Somehow Call of Duty is going to end up winning, and when it does I will murder everyone who voted for it.
