Amazing Spider-Man trailer has giant robots to accompany open world

The last two Spider-Man games developed by Beenox had interesting concepts that involved switching dimensions and time travel, but they were missing something huge: New York City! Spidey fans have been dying for a fully open NYC to swing through since Web of Shadows. We knew Beenox’s Amazing Spider-Man game would bring back the greatest city in the world, though we didn’t expect punching giant robots so early on, but that’s what this new trailer has.

Based on the upcoming Andrew Garfield film, this movie adventure of Peter Parker’s is coming to games, but we’re betting this giant robot doesn’t hit the silver screen, as the film promises a more down to earth touch on Spidey. Also, apparently Oscorp, the company owned by Norman Osborn (who may or may not be the Green Goblin this time around), is part of the film universe. For now all that really matters to us is seeing the hero return to his home city. Though we hope we can change the character skin later on, because we aren’t in love with the new movie costume.

yah, I was really dissapointed to say the least when I say this at the VGAs, I had hopes that mabey Beenox could turn their latest spider game falliure around with this one, but then, robots.... :(

oh wow! A Marvel game where you punch robots I never seen that before!
  • Acerlux - December 11, 2011 8:50 a.m.

And here I thought Mass Effect 3 would be the only game where anyone fought Reapers.

It looks just like Spider-Man 2. No, I mean, the graphics look like they came out of the PS2. The buildings look copy pasted from that game and the moves are the same.

So the Movie is basically Spidey's Edge, and the game is Transformers: Revenge of the Spiderslayers. ..................**** this, I'm gonna go read a good ol' fashion printed comic book.

I like how all giant robot designers make sure to include a T-Rex style roar function. Nothing that huge is intimidating, if it can't roar. I'll keep an eye on it since I like the idea of web-slinging in NYC, but the robots taking over plot line doesn't seem so interesting. Is this the plot the movie is following also?

Well, it at least looks better than the film.

imagine that, fighting robots in a superhero movie tie-in... woo. effing. hoo.

Open World New York YAY! Giant Robots that look like they belong in 2099 Oh..... OK I guess Oscorp made them, nothing could POSSIBLY go wrong with this. Bye Beenox. You had a chance. Coulda made a stealth game based around Noir. Rather you choose basketball suit.

as long as it isn't just another quicktime event... push A ...then sit... oh push B now? I also hope that there is more physics to the game. I feel every hero game has lacked a real sense of impact to you as a character. Spidey needs that... maybe more like assassin's creed.

That looked so bad it made me want to throw up. It just screams 6/10.

Thank god. I hated it too, but everyone else just seemed to be trolling. I was HOPING someone respectable would voice their indiscretion. I mean, seriously, a spider fighting a giant, killer, part-DINOSAUR robot? At least we can hope the FILM'S good.
  • Pwnz0r3d - December 10, 2011 7:11 p.m.

That looked like a glorified quicktime event. Im fairly certain the actual battle will be button mashing and swinging around, and then press random buttons to kill the scarab. Beenox makes horrible Spiderman games. I wish Treyarch could give it another go again.

I actually think it looks good, there's definitely potential.
  • nemesisuprising - December 10, 2011 6:57 p.m.

and despite showing major improvement and potential, the inclusion of robots will of course overwrite all progress in the minds of a troll, and resulting the unfair bashing of a game that hasnt even been released yet...
  • Headstandz - December 10, 2011 6:40 p.m.

I am now not getting this game. I hate, hate, HATE robots in games. Punching someone and feeling the force or here clanks? You decided.
  • ThatsWhatSheSaid - December 10, 2011 6:40 p.m.

looks Very dated, im talkin Pre-Prototype dated... of all the VGA trailers, this one is ranked bottom!

Flashing back to those GODDAMN random robot events in spider-man 2. "I need experience! maybe I'll save a balloon!" *Utterly destroyed by robots out of nowhere*
