A little reminder: the World Science Fiction Convention returns to London after 49 years. Sign up now...
As you may know, the World Science Fiction Convention (this year dubbed Loncon ) is going to be held in London this August – for the first time since 1965.
The guests of honour who will be appearing at the 72nd convention are John Clute, Malcolm Edwards, Chris Foss, Jeanne Gomoll, Robin Hobb and Bryan Talbot. (Iain M Banks has been named a guest of honour in memoriam.)
Events for Loncon 3 include a programme devoted to the works of Tolkien, writing workshops, and on Saturday evening there'll be a masquerade catwalk show hosted in the ICC Auditorium. Other events include a theatrical performance of Tim Powers’ award-winning novel The Anubis Gates .
In addition, the winners of the Retro Hugo Awards will also be announced. These are given to books that would have been eligible for a Hugo Award during the years when the awards were not held. This year awards will be given out to writing, films and art from 1939. Visitors are encouraged to wear retro-futuristic costumes for the event, and to stay behind afterwards to celebrate the swig music of 1930s.
You can either buy a full membership, which will allow you into all areas of the convention every day and enable you to vote in the Hugo Awards, or you can buy a day ticket. Prices can be found on the Loncon 3 website . The convention, which will be held at ExCeL, will run from 14 to 18 August 2014. There is more information at www.loncon3.org .
