David Lynch, M.I.A and Roman Coppola were among the judges on the panel at this weekend’s Vimeo Festival + Awards, responsible for changing one filmmaker’s life with a grand prize of $25,000.
“The quality of films I watched for the Vimeo Festival was 'A-number one',” Lynch commented, while Coppola added: “There is some really inventive stuff out there and I appreciated having a window into the creative work that people are producing.”
The overall winner of the fest’s Best Video award went to Eliot Rausch for Last Minutes With ODEN (above), which follows the final days of a dog who is losing a battle with cancer.
Not only did Rausch pick up the top prize, but he was awarded a grant of $25,000 to go towards his next original work.
“We developed the Vimeo Festival + Awards to recognise the people behind the most original creative videos on the Internet and give them a venue to learn from and inspire each other,” says Blake Whitman, the fest’s co-director.
“We received such incredible enthusiasm for this inaugural event, and the quality of the work that people have submitted has been incredible.”
