Although Captain America: Civil War will focus on the major rift between Steve Rodgers and Tony Stark, Marvel's next film is not lacking for additional characters. Not only will we see the return of Black Widow, War Machine, Falcon, and others, Civil War will also introduce us to Tom Holland's brand new Spider-Man - and it looks like he might not be clad in his classic red and blue costume.
Speaking with Super Interessante, Civil War co-director Anthony Russo stated that "We knew it was going to be someone young and it was very important to us because we wanted to give this essence to the character, because he is someone unique to the Marvel universe. Tom Holland is an amazing Spider-Man, people will love him".
It was a very experimental process, placing him with the other actors, especially with [Robert] Downey Jr, we had to learn as we worked", Russo continued. And we're very happy with the final result. We're still working on a few things, like the costume. He's not ready yet because so much will be produced with special effects". And as for the red and gold costume Spidey wore in the Civil War comic? "The film will show a mix of what everyone is waiting for with a little twist. So yeah, that's all I can say".
Previous Spider-Man movies have rarely strayed from the traditional primary coloured costume, and it's unlikely that any changes made to the outfit will be too drastic. The bigger question is arguably whether or not Marvel will give us a glimpse of the character before release, or give him the 'Luke Skywalker' treatment and keep him under wraps. As always, time will tell.
