The first teaser trailer for The Muppets Movie has debuted online.

Cleverly, uh, toying with audience expectations, it spends the first 50 seconds pretending to be a dodgy, dreary rom-com starring Amy Adams and Jason Segel. Called Green With Envy .

Then out pop Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and a whole menagerie of their fuzzy, head-bobbing co-stars.

Check out the teaser below...

Though it’s just an early look at the film that has its tongue pressed firmly into its cheek cavity, this first teaser for The Muppets Movie gets the tone bang on.

The bluff of its opening moments is endearingly silly (and plays up to Adams’ rep for doing a few horrible rom-coms), while the sudden appearance of the Muppets themselves is a giggly-inducing punchline.

There also appears to be a lot of singing involved, with some very impressive Muppet choreography on show. Adams livening up a musical number or two alongside some furry co-stars? Count us in!

The Muppets Movie opens 17 February, 2012.
