Terminator 2 is back with a 3D version that will absolutely not stop, ever (until its 2017 release)

Late last year it emerged that James Cameron was working on a 3D remastering of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which was initially scheduled to hit cinemas in 2016 to coincide with the movie's 25th anniversary. While that time has come and gone with no fanfare - presumably because Cameron is hard at work on four Avatar sequels - T2 in 3D is still in the works, and the official Terminator 2 Facebook page debuted a new poster for the re-release along with a pretty great tagline:

"August 29th 1997: The day Skynet first became self aware. August 29th 2016: the day you first saw the brand new poster for Terminator 2 in 3D. Coming to theaters in 2017".

I'm a big fan of Terminator 2, but the same cannot be said for watching movies in 3D. Barring a few exceptions - most recently with The Jungle Book this year - the format is largely wasted and even detrimental in many blockbusters. With that said, when you take into account how well T2's VFX still hold up in addition to Cameron's past success with using 3D in Avatar, I'm hopeful this re-release will be another exception to the rule. We'll find out next year.
