LA Noire shows off its seamy side with vice trailer

Latest look at LA's underworld sees Cole Phelps take on fixed fights and morphine dealers

Given the tone of some of its more recent trailers and previews, it can be easy to forget that LA Noire isn't all serial killers and murder investigations. Beforehe works his way up to homicide, however, Cole Phelps will have to pay his dues as a uniformed beat cop, a traffic detective and - as showcased in the video below - with a stint in the vice squad.

Drug fiends and scheming bookies might not seem as weighty as the life-or-death cases you'll play through later in the game, but working vice promises to solidlyunderscore one of the game's central themes: that underneath its seemingly shiny, glamorousexterior, 1940s Hollywood was a cesspit of corruption and horror. Getting to dig into that world firsthand is one of the biggest reasons we're looking forward to LA Noire, and the appearance of two more familiar actors in the trailer(familiar to fans of Fringe and/or Mad Men, anyway) only sweetens the deal.
