Green Lantern won't appear in the DC Cinematic Universe until Justice League Part 2

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is more than just a superhero battle, it's a launching pad for a whole host of characters to make their DC Cinematic Universe debuts. Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg and, in a larger role Wonder Woman, will all appear alongside the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel before headlining their own movies. So where does that leave Green Lantern?

Last summer Warner Bros. announced a brand new outing for the emerald enforcers, Green Lantern Corps, which will introduce multiple Lanterns when it arrives in 2020. That's a long way off, though. In the meantime, rumors have stirred that one of the Lanterns - John Stewart or Hal Jordan - will make a cameo in an earlier movie. Or if that's not possible might we get a cheeky easter egg or subtle name-drop?

It looks as though neither of those things will be happening until Justice League Part 2. And even that's not a dead cert. “Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out. So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2,” producer Charles Roven tells Entertainment Weekly. “For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.”

The one movie between Justice League Part 2 and Green Lantern Corps is Cyborg, currently scheduled for release in April 2020. That's only three months before the Green Lantern movie. And it's also ages away! But let's remember that old adage: good things come to those who wait. And by the sounds of it, Warner plans to take its time in getting this next Green Lantern film spot-on:

“[Green Lantern] is an incredible character," Warner Bros. creative president Greg Silverman adds. "He’s actually multiple incredible characters. There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.”
