Gangster Squad poster has a B-movie vibe

Gangster Squad has dropped a first poster onto the web, and it aims for a fetching B-movie tone with an undeniably modern sheen.

Sean Penn’s ruthless gangster Mickey Cohen rules the roost, hovering above the pack with a Tommy Gun.

Completing the main triangle are Ryan Gosling’s Jerry Wooters and Josh Brolin’s John O’Mara, a pair of maverick lawmen who are part of the titular off-the-record team.

Gosling and Brolin reappear in the poster’s flaming core, alongside their fellow law-bending LAPD officers.

Adding some femininity to the macho mix is Emma Stone, draped alluringly down the side. The ease with which she’s transformed from goofy comedienne to sultry gangster’s moll deserves appreciation.

Gangster Squad opens in the UK on 11 January 2013.
