Ex-Walking Dead Showrunner Mazzara In Talks To Write The Shining Prequel

While the book world is getting excited about Stephen King’s very long-awaited sequel to The Shining in the the form of Doctor Sleep (which is published on 24 September 2013), Hollywood is prepping a prequel called The Overlook Hotel (where, of course, much of the novel takes place).

According to Deadline , former The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara is in talks to write the script.

The project is being developed by Warner Bros to be produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt and Laeta Kalogridis.

Of course, Stephen King gave a lot of information about the past of The Overlook in the novel that wasn’t in the film, but there’s no reason to think that any film would remain slavishly loyal to the source material (is there, Mr Kubrick?).

What do think? Mazzara clearly clearly has good form, but do we really need a prequel to The Shining ?
