Dogmeat and D-Dog are up for a major World Dog Award

Video game dogs had a fantastic year in 2015, but their victory won't be complete until one of the pack is rightfully celebrated on a TV awards show. The CW's World Dog Awards has dutifully stepped up to fill that gap, asking internet residents to vote on one of their four favorite virtual pooches.

The shortlist of honored canines is composed of Dogmeat from Fallout 4, D-Dog from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Chop from GTA 5, and everything, I guess, from Barbie and Her Sisters Puppy Rescue. Dinki-Di from Mad Max is reportedly too busy working on a new off-broadway production of Anything Goes to consider accepting an award, but I suspect the usual entertainment world politicking actually kept him off the ballot.

Other categories include Most Dog-Like Animal, Top Trick, and Pop Dog, the last of which is entirely devoted to music videos featuring dogs. The award ceremony hosted by comedian George Lopez will air on The CW on January 14 at 8 PM EST.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
