Destiny: Xur weapons, gear, and location, February 19 - 21. The Taikonaut!

Xur, Destiny’s weekend merchant, amateur cheesemaker, and outspoken ‘expert’ on the films of Vin Diesel – despite never having seen The Chronicles of Riddick – is back in the Tower. Specifically, he’s down near the Speaker, trying to bluff his way around the finer points of Necromonger lore.

No guns in his store this week (again), but is the armour any good? Some of it is, yes. And some of it is slightly better.

  • The Taikonaut (Exotic Titan helmet) – 13SC
  • Skyburners Annex (Exotic Hunter helmet) – 13SC
  • Claws of Ahamkara (Exotic Warlock gauntlets) – 13SC
  • Legacy gauntlet engram – 29SC
  • Exotic helmet engram – 19SC
  • Three of Coins – 7 Strange Coins
  • Glass Needle – 3 Strange Coins

Titans probably get the best deal with week, the Taikonaut delivering the kind of across-the-board improvement that will change the way you play the game whatever set-up you use. Well, as long as you like rocket launchers, anyway. And if you don’t, then I don’t think we’re going to get on. You see, its key perk grants target tracking to every launcher in the game. And the ability to keep the radar on while scoped. And more ammo drops for your favourite tube of explosive fun as well. And it’ll give you more Super energy for Heavy weapon kills. Basically, it turns every launcher into an uber-launcher, so just pick your favourite and start laying waste to things.

The Skyburner’s Annex is a solid, if unspectacular helmet, great for support work, but not too glamourous when it comes to solo play. It will give you bonus Super energy from Heavy weapon kills, and also brings a decent chance of generating orbs via the same method. Aim a rocket launcher with a decent blast radius into a mob, and everybody wins. Do it again when your Super is full, and you’ll get Special ammo.

The Warlock’s Claws of Ahamkara initially seem a more overtly offensive pick, delivering an extra melee charge with every full gauge, and increased melee attack speed for each and every one of those magic slaps. But combine them with a Flame Shield focused Sunsinger build, and a gun like Monte Carlo (which has a very high chance of recharging your melee with every kill), and you’ll have a serious tank build on the go.

As ever, Xur will be in the Tower until 10am UK / 2am PT on Sunday, when he'll be gone forever. Or at least until next week. Yeah, more likely until next week.
