Cult favorite series Darksiders is finally getting a third entry, according to an Amazon leak. The not-so-imaginatively-titled Darksiders 3 will put players in control of the only female member of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Fury, who seeks to "restore the balance between good and evil on Earth." It's coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
In case you weren't aware or needed a refresher (Darksiders 2 originally came out five years ago after all), Darksiders tells the story of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Though most of pop culture names the Horsemen as War, Death, Famine, and Pestilence, the Darksiders games name them War, Death, Fury, and Strife.

The first game told the story of War, who was tricked into starting Armageddon early, and subsequently wiped out humanity. It is basically the best M-rated Zelda ever. Darksiders 2 was a prequel / side-story that expanded on the formula and was more of an open-world RPG, with loot and customizable fighting styles. It's hard to tell from the Amazon description whether this will be a full-blown sequel or another spin-off, though I'm hoping for the former - the first Darksiders ended on quite the cliffhanger.
In either case, it looks we'll be seeing new enemies and old friends, as the Amazon description teases a fight against the Seven Deadly Sins, and a screenshot shows the blacksmith Ulthane, who was introduced in the first Darksiders.
Darksiders 3 is being developed by Gunfire Games, which was formed when Vigil, the studio behind the first two games, collapsed. Much of the original Darksiders team will be working on DS3 then, though it's unclear how much involvement Joe Madureira, the creative director and artist who defined the Darksiders world and distinctive art style, will have. We've reached out to Nordic for additional details.
