Charlie Sheen joins Machete Kills

Machete Kills has added another controversial figure to its undeniably eclectic cast, with Robert Rodriguez tweeting confirmation that Charlie Sheen has signed on to play the president of the United States.

Sheen’s president is the man who will recruit Machete (Danny Trejo) for his latest mission, namely to thwart an unhinged drug lord with plans to threaten global security by launching a super-weapon into space.

Said drug lord will be played by none other than Mel Gibson, which should push the film’s crazy-meter well into the danger zone. It doesn’t sound likely that Sheen and Gibson will meet on-screen, but we can keep our fingers crossed nonetheless.

The rest of the cast will be filled out by the returning Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez (reprising their roles from the first film), Sofia Vergara as a leather-clad madam and Amber Heard as a lethal assassin. Zoe Saldana, Demian Bichir and Edward James Olmos are also on board in as yet unspecified roles.

Machete Kills is expected to arrive in cinemas in 2013, with a specific release date yet to be set. When it does land, however, expect the tabloids to have a field day...
