When Crysis - the next project from acclaimed Far Cry developer Crytek - was announced recently it immediately roused our interest. But now that publisher EA has showered us with a bounty of glorious images and an astonishing movie - which you can see by clicking the link at the top of the page - that shows off the game's technical wizardry, we're practically overflowing with excitement.

Touted as a first-person sci-fi shooter, Crysis is set in 2019 and follows a team of Delta Force operatives sent to a chain of islands to investigate a huge asteroid that has crashed in the region. Matters are complicated by the involvement of the North Korean government, which seals off the area and stakes a claim to the huge hunk of inter-stellar debris.

As the situation between US and North Korean forces escalates into gun-shaped hostility, a colossal alien craft emerges from the asteroid and states its sinister intent by emitting a devastating force sphere that freezes a huge area of the island. Reacting to the drastic turn of events, the rival militaries join forces to combat the threat of the extra-terrestrial invader.

In addition to weapon-wielding enemies, the player will also have to battle against a volatile environment, with earthquakes, landslides and tornados an ever-present danger on the island, although a variety of land, sea and air vehicles should come in useful when a hasty escape is required.

I don't have the energy to really hate anything properly. Most things I think are OK or inoffensively average. I do love quite a lot of stuff as well, though.
