Derek Cianfrance’s follow-up to Blue Valentine has completed its major casting with the announcement that Rose Byrne has agreed to join The Place Beyond The Pines .
The Bridesmaids star will take on a role originally to be played by Greta Gerwig, before promotional commitments meant the actress was forced to pull out. Gerwig is set to appear at the Venice Film Festival to plug Whit Stilman’s Damsels In Distress , before heading to Rome to film Woody Allen’s The Bop Decameron alongside Alec Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg.
Gerwig’s loss is clearly Byrne’s gain, as she becomes the wife of Bradley Cooper’s cop turned politician. Her addition further strengthens a mouth-watering ensemble that also includes Ryan Gosling, Ray Liotta, Eva Mendes and Animal Kingdom ’s Ben Mendelsohn.
The plot will centre upon a showdown between Cooper’s character and Ryan Gosling’s motorcycle-riding bank robber, a part for which the Drive star recently treated himself to a fetching blonde rinse. The film is currently shooting in Schenectady, New York.
We’re getting very excited about this one, particularly if Cianfrance and Gosling can recreate the relationship that proved so fruitful on Blue Valentine . A cast like this doesn’t come along every day…
