Horror series takes a weird swerve into rom-zom-com

Taking a weird swerve into rom-zom-com, the third [ REC ] shaky-horror ends up pulled apart by its own genre mutations.

It also makes a startling stylistic jack-knife after 20 minutes, when a bride (Leticia Dolera) and groom (Javier Botet) see their big day turn into a disco of the damned (and someone smashes the camcorder).

Oddball comedy instantly kills zombie scares - the neck-ripping is bloody but boring - leaving you clinging to the fun moments when director Paco Plaza nails it. Most memorably? A dripping wet bride with a steaming chainsaw. “This is my day!”
