Long weekends are a double-edged sword. While it’s nice to have that extra day out of the office, you’ve got to work out how to fill an extra day of leisure time. Luckily, for the second of May’s two bank holidays (why can’t they spread them more evenly through the year – May’s a nice month but not worthy of two bank holidays) help is at hand courtesy of this year’s London Expo.
Running at London’s massive Excel Centre from 23-24 May, the weekend of SF-themed fun features stars, TV show/movie panels and loads more besides. On the guest list this year are comic book legend (and SFX columnist) Warren Ellis, original Bionic Woman Lindsay Wagner, Terminator star Linda Hamilton, who’s rumoured to be lending her voice to upcoming prequel/sequel Terminator Salvation and (we know he’s not very SF, but he did guest star in Lois & Clark Some Like It Hot is ace) the one and only Tony Curtis.
The creators and stars of Merlin take a break from filming the upcoming second season to talk about what’s in store, Moon director (and Bowie offspring) Duncan Jones shows clips from his lunar set trip to serious SF territory, Franklyn helmer Gerald McMorrow chats about the impending DVD release and – ahead of the show’s return for season 3.5 on Sky1 – A Town Called Eureka’s Joe Morton and Neil Grayson are in town too.
Cosplay fans will be interested to learn that the first day of the event will feature an attempt to break the world record for the most people in a videogame-inspired costume, while gamers can expect some Monster Hunter fun. Oh, and you'll probably want to look out for the SFX team! Find out more by visiting the official site .
