Anchorman 2 has added some more comedy firepower to its ensemble with the announcement that Kristen Wiig has officially joined the cast.
Director Adam McKay took to Twitter to confirm the news, and sounded suitably excited about securing the Bridesmaids star for the sequel.
“Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2 ,” tweeted McKay. “Cannonball!”
Details remain hazy as to who Wiig will be playing, but initial rumours have suggested she’ll be love interest for Steve Carell’s character, Brick Tamland.
Wiig’s signing is a step in the right direction towards McKay achieving his goal of creating, “a murderer’s row of the best day players ever… every single one-line or three-line role [ will ] just be someone we just love.”
Co-starring Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate and David Koechner, Anchorman: The Legend Continues will open in the UK on 1 August 2013.
