Hayley Atwell has been rather coy over whether she will be returning as Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier , but a recent interview with Time Out confirms that she will not.
Instead, the production is still thought to be searching for its female lead, with Peggy’s younger sister Sharon Carter thought to be a likely replacement for Atwell’s character.
No casting has been confirmed as yet, but Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, Allison Brie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have all been linked with a role in the film.
The sequel will find Steve Rodgers struggling to adjust to life in modern-day America, while also pitched into battle with his old pal Bucky Barnes, now reinvented as a brainwashed Russian assassin.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and co-starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will open in the UK on 4 April 2014.
