I assumed we already had our fill with cheap Nintendo Switch bundles in the UK for the time being, but I'm very happy to be proven wrong.

Yesterday, Nintendo unveiled that you can now build your own custom Switch 2 bundle in Europe starting from £395.99 and select between the console, a Switch 2 game, a membership for Nintendo Switch Online, and the best part - add an accessory of your choice entirely for free.

It's not just run-of-the-mill accessories included, but you can pick up a cute Gengar controller and even a 256GB Switch 2 SD card. This accessory is the main benefit here, as otherwise everything you can select is available for its usual price, so if you were already hoping to pick up the handheld along with an NSO subscription, this bundle feels like a bit of a no-brainer.

The Build Your Own Nintendo Switch 2 Bundle will only save you cash if you were hoping to pick up a spare case, controller, or a microSD Express Card. But I'd recommend it regardless, especially as now is the best time to buy before the price increase rolls out on September 1, 2026.

Nintendo has laid out this custom bundle process in a really straightforward way. Once you get to the accessory selection step, there's a huge range of Hori Gengar and Mimikyu goodies available, including the Vault Case that I reviewed earlier this year. Officially licensed Pokemon products typically come with an inflated cost compared to other accessories, so adding one of the items to your bundle is a great way to circumvent that.

The once £30.99 wired HORIPAD Turbo controller doesn't cost a penny, but you don't have to stick to the Pokemon-covered extras if you don't want to. Nintendo has included plenty of Hori's more subtle peripherals, including the Cozy Pink and Cozy Green versions of the gamepad. You're basically free to choose whichever accessory your heart desires from the list, but if you want to know the one I'd pick (particularly if you're after the biggest saving), it's going to be either the SanDisk or Samsung microSD Express Card.

The official SanDisk and Samsung models are the most expensive accessories on the list. If you want to save the most, it'd make the most sense to grab the priciest item for free, and it just so happens that ensuring you have one of the best microSD Express Cards in your setup is kind of a big deal, at least in my eyes anyway.

The Nintendo Switch 2 only comes with 256GB of onboard storage, and that can fill pretty fast if you're using it to play AAA releases. Final Fantasy 14 is finally available on the console, and the MMO requires 117GB of space to download, which is almost half your available storage spent on one game. By choosing either of these cards, you'd be automatically equipping your gaming handheld with double the storage at no additional cost, and I feel like that's far more important than picking up a cute Pokemon controller.

The neat thing about this 'Build your own' bundle is that the choice is entirely up to you. Just, if it were me, I'd personally choose either of those SD cards, but as someone with a soft spot for Hori's official Pokemon products, I entirely understand if you can't turn down the Gengar's menacing face on the case or the wired controller. Not to mention, Hori's Eevee Cottage Core controller is also in the midst, and I find it difficult to not pick up the pad when playing Pokopia as it's so cute, even when I have better feature-full controllers at my disposal.

Whatever you do, just don't double up and add Pokopia as your game of choice if you've already selected the Switch 2 bundle it comes with, and avoid the Hori Piranha Plant camera. Not only is it prone to discounts at UK retailers, but it only supports a 480p image quality. Unless you want to look like big, blurry blobs in compatible Switch 2 games, you're better off sticking to an at least 1080p compatible USB-C webcam instead. And you might have one of those just lying around already.

While this custom bundle is not available in the US, anyone after a Switch 2 across the pond can instead grab the Choose Your Game bundle for $499 at Amazon which includes the console and a download code for either Pokemon Pokopia, Donkey Kong Bananza, or Mario Kart World.

Hardware Editor

Ever since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
