Mixtape has me running to these nine '90s retro tech gadgets this weekend
Time to crack open some CDs
Mixtape is here and it's sending us all straight back to the '90s. Whether it's the monster hits or heart-wrenchingly nostalgic vibes taking you to Blue moon Lagoon, there's something we can all agree on. Tech was just better back then.
It couldn't answer any question you had at the drop of a hat, organize your photos by pets, or blast never-ending scroll time into your eyeballs. Everything had its job and everything did its job. Using this tech today is like switching from dubstep to a brown noise machine and as soon as I saw those fluffy orange headphones on Stacy Rockford's head, I knew I was in trouble.
I've always been curious about detaching my life from my phone, saying goodbye to Spotify and iCloud subscriptions and hello to over-encumbered pockets and film canisters. As I spend my weekend in '90s bliss, then, these are the 90s tech, toys, and gadgets I'm just an unwanted notification away from.
We're also rounding up all the best retro consoles and the best retro handhelds for more nostalgia.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more

Managing Editor of Hardware at GamesRadar+, I originally landed in hardware at our sister site TechRadar before moving over to GamesRadar. In between, I've written for Tom’s Guide, Wireframe, The Indie Game Website and That Video Game Blog, covering everything from the PS5 launch to the Apple Pencil. Now, i'm focused on Nintendo Switch, gaming laptops (and the keyboards, headsets and mice that come with them), PS5, and trying to find the perfect projector.
