Sony has been spiralling its PS5 prices for some time now, but the biggest blow to players' bank accounts came earlier this month. That's when the cost of a console leapt up to $900 for the Pro version, with the Digital Edition starting at a massive $599. It took retailers a little while to catch up with the new pricing, and Amazon still had previous MSRPs on the shelves for a few days after the fact. However, it looks like retailers have now leapt up to its 2026 rates. That is, everywhere other than Sony itself.
Just two weeks after boosting its rates, the PS5's own storefront (PlayStation Direct) has a Fortnite Flowering Chaos bundle available for $399. That's $200 off the Digital Edition's new price tag with some free in-game swag for those with the reflex age to make use of it.
It's always sad to be celebrating a PS5 deal that simply returns the console to the MSRP we'd be paying a few weeks ago - but if you're looking to buy a device this week this is absolutely where you need to be looking.
That's right, the PS5 Digital Edition should now cost you a whopping $599, but this Fortnite Flowering Chaos bundle at PlayStation Direct is taking a step backwards. The console is available for just $399 right now - $200 off the new MSRP.
Yes, the PS5 Digital Edition has been cheaper in the past. Crikey, everything was cheaper in the past.
However, no other retailers can compete with a $200 price cut right now. Amazon has it at its ludicrous $599 MSRP, Best Buy is offering a slightly insulting $20 discount, and Walmart is only slightly better with $24 off. This is the only way to grab a PS5 without feeling ripped off this week.
PS5 prices jumped on April 2, with the disc version moving up from $549.99 to $649.99 and the Pro model seeing a meteoric increase from $749.99 to $899.99. It's not just Sony feeling the pinch as supply chains struggle to meet demand either. Just this week, Meta announced its own Quest 3S and Quest 3 price increases, while retro handhelds face production pauses and their own MSRP boosts.
