PNY has rolled out a slew of discounts across its flash storage options on Amazon in time for the back to school season. Most of what's on offer is, as you can imagine, is best suited for students, with its PRO Elite SDXC cards and flash drives receiving the biggest savings. But fortunately for Switch 2 players, I did spot its 256GB microSD Express card hiding amongst the rest of the marked-down storage.
Out of all the PNY savings, which are expected to last until August 29 later this month, the Switch 2 card is one of the smallest with just $5 off. However, at $49.99 (Amazon) it's one of the cheapest ways to get 256GB for your Switch 2 right now, which is needed more than ever when games like FF14 have landed and brought their 117GB install sizes along with them.
The discount on PNY's 256GB microSD Express card isn't huge, but it's still pretty decent when you factor in the alternatives. If you were looking at the best microSD Express Cards, you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find 256GB for less than $59 across US retailers. Both SanDisk and Samsung currently have their officially licenced cards, like the Samsung 256GB microSD Express Card, listed at their full $59 MSRPs right now, and discounts can be a bit of a rarity outside of sale periods.
This is one of the best gaming storage deals going right now, but you could save a little more if you don't mind just receiving a smaller 128GB boost. PNY's 128GB Switch 2 card is also discounted, and is down to $39.99 at Amazon, just $5.79 away from its record low price it dropped to towards the end of last year. You're not going to get double the amount of storage to play with, and I'd always recommend the 256GB option instead, particularly as Switch 2 games are getting more storage demanding all the time. However, an extra 128GB is still better than nothing and nothing to scoff over if it's all your budget can spare.
In the UK, the PNY card has no discount to be found, but that's likely as kids on this side of the pond are already gearing up to return to school. While that's a bummer, those new to the Switch 2 can alternatively pick up Nintendo's new Build Your Own Bundle, and select a 256GB card as a freebie. Though as a heads up, that's after you've bought the console and an NSO subscription.
