Is that a pastel Mario version of the cheapest Switch 2 controller I've tested? At its lowest price yet?
The PowerA Advantage Wired Controller is the cheapest gamepad I've tested for the Nintendo Switch 2. It certainly feels like a budget option, but that doesn't mean it can't look good while doing so. Walmart has the first discount I've seen on this gorgeous pastel Mario Kingdom colorway, dropping it neatly into the price I'd recommend paying for this more affordable release.
You'll find those clickers available for $29.84 at Walmart right now, $10 off its $39.84 MSRP. This is one of the best designs I've seen splashed across the controller, but it's worth noting the more minimal options are available for around $20 elsewhere. Still, this entry hasn't seen too many savings in its time so if you're looking for an affordable player two that doesn't let the vibes down it's well worth investigating.
This pastel Mario Kingdom version of the PowerA Advantage Wired Controller is $10 off at Walmart right now. That's the first time I've seen a discount on this particular colorway, but alternatives can be found for less.
It's still one of the best Nintendo Switch 2 controllers for anyone hunting down a budget alternative to the Pro's $89 MSRP but, looking below that gorgeous design, there are some sacrifices. As you'll read in my PowerA Advantage Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 review, this is a lightweight, low-cost controller which means it feels hollow in the hands and the buttons don't have the same cushioned response that you'll find in more premium models. The home / navigation buttons are also bizarrely shifted down to the bottom of the main face, a change I couldn't get used to in testing.
Does it get the job done? Absolutely, and it's perfect for stocking up on extra Mario Kart options - but if you've got the cash to invest in a sturdier gamepad it's going to be better spent further up the price scale. This isn't a miracle controller wrapped up in an amazingly low price.
If you're buying a new Switch 2 controller that's going to get some serious playtime, check out Rosalie's 8BitDo Ultimate 2 review. This is a wired gamepad, and it's double today's price on the PowerA Advantage, but you get a much better feel in the hands, buttons are all where they're supposed to be, and you don't need to rely on a cable. That comes with its own frustrations (there's no wake function in here and pairing can be tricky), but it's a better 'main' controller overall.
