Gears of War 3 Opening Cinematic: Anya Stroud catches you up on the story

One month away from Gears of War 3, Epic Games has released a new video titled “Opening Cinematic.” Any guesses about where — if at all — this cinematic section will appear in the game are welcome. The video is narrated by former Lieutenant Anya Stroud, who gives a quick historical rundown of the previous two Gears games, presumably just before the game drops you into the opening scene — an Inception-style dream sequence that we played through in our first-two-hours preview.

When Anya records the video, people are still living on a remote island, but the lambent Locusts have discovered them, which makes the islands much less habitable. Some humans have decided to brave returning to the mainland, but Anya will be trying to forge a permanent life on a ship. As she makes a last-minute announcement to prepare for departure, the video ends, just as we're gearing up for some Locust combat on the high seas.
