Gangs Of Wasseypur: Part 1 review

Manoj Bajpayee fights for his father's honour

Though split into two films for its UK release, Anurag Kashyap’s odyssey through 50 years of three warring crime families in the Indian village of Wasseypur was intended originally as one five hour-plus epic.

What is a nightmare for distributors, then, is a dream for fans of immersive cinema.

Over its two parts, empires rise and fall and rise again in a cycle of violence, death and betrayal that’s as riveting as it is believable, with a depth of character that the running time allows the script to explore.

Give it a chance and you’ll never look at Bollywood the same way again.

Gangs Of Wasseypur: Part 2 opens on 1 March 2013.
