After two years in Steam Early Access, Fields of Mistria has fully launched with its 1.0 update adding key features like marriage, children, and player-requested quality of life improvements.
Fields of Mistria, the conceit of which is often synthesized as Sailor Moon meets Stardew Valley, launched into Early Access in August 2024, almost exactly two years ago. In that amount of time, it's become one of the foremost indie darlings in the cozy gaming scene, alluring the perpetually anxious among us with shojo-style anime cutscenes, a gentle progression loop built around farming, fishing, crafting, building relationships with villagers, and tinkering with the game's unique magic system. As you might expect, you, as the player, are tasked with restoring a disaster-ravaged homestead to its former picturesque glory.
Reactions to Fields of Mistria have been so universally positive that I often forgot it was in early access until today. In the two years it's been in testing, the game has received more than 26,000 reviews on Steam, and 97% of them have been categorized as positive. GamesRadar+'s Andrew Brown recently wrote about Fields of Mistria's deep RPG systems and "easy-living fantasy" that offers value in every possible progression avenue, which is especially impressive given the modest $14 price tag.

Now, with 1.0 having launched on Steam, there's even more to do. You can check out the full patch notes here, but arguably the biggest highlight is the addition of marriage and weddings to bring your romances to a narrative conclusion. Finally, instead of living the bachelor life and romancing several characters, it's time to pick one to settle down and have kids with. It's been two years, y'all, enough playing around.
The 1.0 update also lets you finally complete the Town Repair questline and go up to 100 in Town Renown, complete your museum, and start collecting Steam achievements. Some player-requested QoL features include the ability to rotate your avatar in the customization menu, the ability to disable break-up letters, and an option to disable the status change from Dating to Best Friends that happens automatically after engagement. And finally, you'll start seeing cloud shadows on the ground around town, which is entirely insignificant from a gameplay perspective but is nonetheless lovely.
