The Starfield PS5 release date has been set for April 7, 2026. This is a key moment for Bethesda Game Studios, which is now in a position to put its sprawling science-fiction RPG in front of the PlayStation community following almost three years of Xbox Series X console exclusivity.
You'll be able to purchase Starfield on PS5 for just $49.99 from April 7, with Bethesda confirming that the price is falling for the standard edition of the game across all platforms. Starfield was originally introduced at a $69.99 price point for PC and Xbox Series X on September 6, 2023.
This base edition of the game will get you access to a sprawling adventure across the Settled Systems, as well as years of new content drops and key quality-of-life improvements. The PS5 release arrives in tandem with Free Lanes, a massive free update available to players across all platforms that introduces new features and systems that strengthen the underlying experience – including the addition of deep space travel, more customization options, and another land vehicle.
PS5 players who purchase the Starfield Premium Edition will immediately be able to access the two primary expansions. There's 2024's Shattered Space, and the new Terran Armada story DLC that is also set to land across all platforms on April 7 – a questline which spans the star map, allowing you and your crew to combat the incursions of the Terran Armada’s robotic forces.
Bethesda has also confirmed that the PS5 version of Starfield will make full use of console-specific features, including the controller's adaptive triggers and touchpad. In addition, PS5 Pro owners will be able to activate a Pro Performance Mode, which prioritizes a higher-target FPS or a Pro Visual Mode to really heighten those vast cosmic vistas.
Bethesda Game Studios was acquired by Microsoft Gaming in 2021, as part of Xbox's $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax Media. The arrival of Starfield on PS5 has long been expected, with Xbox having shifted away from console exclusivity in favor of a broader multi-platform approach to promoting its first-party releases. Still, this will certainly feel like a milestone moment for many – with Xbox's biggest exclusive RPG finally crossing the platform divide. Starfield will be followed onto PS5 by Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Gears of War: E-Day, and Halo: Campaign Evolved, which are all set to land in 2026.
