The Half-Life YouTuber who registered a hidden domain found in Resident Evil Requiem says he'll give it to Capcom for free if the publisher gets in touch.
Earlier this week, Resident Evil fans noticed that one of the BSAA computers that Leon Kennedy can use as a save point in Resident Evil Requiem featured some text on the screen, among which was a webpage, newdawn-capcom.com. However, when people visited the website in real life, they found that Capcom hasn't left it in as a special easter egg. In fact, it takes you to a virtual business card for YouTube content creator Gabe Follower, who covers Valve with videos about leaks for Half-Life 3 and the likes of Counter-Strike 2.
However, IGN caught up with Gabe Follower about the website, and the creator explains that he snapped it up simply because it was there for the taking. "I really like RE games and was scrolling through news after finishing Requiem," the YouTuber explains. "Saw someone talking about this domain and decided to check it. I was genuinely surprised no one registered it, so I've spent 15 bucks just for fun."
Gabe Follower notes that he did think of using the domain for the likes of an ARG, but "I was too lazy for that," or even redirecting people to a certain special YouTube video, but instead ended up with what we see today.
The YouTuber explains that if Capcom did get in touch to use the website for something, "I will give it 'back' for free, lol," so we'll just have to wait and see if anything on the site changes, or if Resident Evil Requiem will continue to include an accidental in-game shoutout to him.
