My most anticipated fighting game has an awesome demo out now where you can brawl with a bunch of giant, scarily quick frogs who wreak havoc by slapping you across the face with their tongues or belly flopping onto you. But, it seems, those frogs are proving to be too much of a challenge for players.
The awkwardly titled BREKEKEKEX is a third-person, single-player anime fighting game "vaguely inspired by Smash Bros. and Naruto," according to developer nohost, and it's not hard to see how. All your slashes and special moves are governed by directional inputs rather than button combos, hence the Super Smash Bros. DNA.
Meanwhile, the deadly frogs are what made me exclaim 'holy Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm,' along with the game's anime-style characters and swaying third-person camera that looks absolutely sick in motion.
But BREKEKEKEX's new demo wasn't kind to everyone. "The difficulty curve is for sure too steep though it's encouraging that some people have said it becomes more fun with practice/experimentation," nohost tweets. "The 'tutorial' in the demo was admittedly kinda last minute."
After a handful of fights where you control an agile young guy wielding a spear that can keep enemies at a distance, the game suddenly puts you in the webbed-feet of another frog, which is the fight that's seemingly kicking everyone's butts. "This fight is giving a lot of people trouble," the dev writes. "Without a proper explanation of all the systems it's pretty hard to brute force" - but at least they left a tutorial down below.

Nohost says they'll be tweaking the game before its full launch, but that viral demo might not be up for long. You can download it on Steam if you're interested, then.
As for the rest of the game, there are apparently multiple playable characters outside of stabby anime man and chubby frog, each with their own movesets. "This isn't an RPG. There are no skill trees to grind and no stats to pad. There is only you, your skills, and the weight of your weapon." Or the weight of your croak.
