The Destiny 2 team is confident that the servers won't crash as players flock to mourn the game's final update on June 9.
Bungie confirmed last week that Destiny 2's active development is officially coming to a close after nine years, and that the game's final update will be released on June 9. That update is the Monument of Triumph, which will introduce one final batch of content before the game enters a static event rotation for those who want to keep playing.
Naturally, Destiny fans aren't too happy, with a petition for Destiny 3 already amassing over 280,000 signatures. However, reports have emerged that Destiny 3 isn't in active development, that Bungie has no greenlit projects, and that the studio is facing layoffs. On top of that, fans are planning to flood the game with a massive player rally on the day of its final update to show Sony that its shooter still has a loyal community.

Over on Twitter, the Destiny 2 team responded to an account saying they look forward to the final update and explained: "Many of us on the team will be on the Tower on June 9 to visit Monument of Triumph with you." And while Destiny 2's major updates have tended to cause the servers to crash in the past, the team adds, "While we're confident the servers won't crash, we've seen some posts floating around. Our Operations Center is prepared for the challenge."
Some, however, have taken this as a challenge, with one user responding, "So you are telling us to make your servers cry for mercy because so many people want on the game? Noted." While another says, "We MUST crash the servers. One last time. I better be stuck on the title screen for like an hour." Although some are hoping it happens "not out of spite, but because that has happened with every DLC. One last time."
