Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced "ranks among the best titles in the franchise" for pre-orders, Ubisoft says, expecting "it will be a really successful" entry
The pirate remake is off to a strong start, it seems
Ubisoft is "very happy" with early reception to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, the upcoming remake of the series' beloved pirate-themed installment, and expects it to sit comfortably alongside full-fat entries in the franchise.
CFO Frederick Duguet discussed Resynced during the Q&A portion of the company's May 20 earnings call. Asked about internal expectations for the game, and whether it could approach a "full-scale" Assassin's Creed entry like last year's Shadows or if it would more closely resemble something like Assassin's Creed Mirage, Duguet expressed confidence in current numbers.
"We are very happy with the pre-orders momentum that ranks among the best titles in the franchise for the first three weeks," Duguet says, "Of course, there's still seven weeks to go, so we'll see how the momentum will continue building up." Resynced is out July 9.
Duguet continues: "We are happy and confident that it will be a really successful Assassin's Creed title, because it's faithful to the experience, but it also comes with many improvements to the original experience that players have liked when they've seen the first showcase of the game."
That's the odd thing about Resynced. It's a new version of an old game, but to many modern players and Assassin's Creed fans, it will be an all-new experience, and it was deliberately modernized to echo recent entries just like Shadows. In terms of production, it's a smaller project, but it's still a full-fat Assassin's Creed game.
Duguet also stresses that "it's not a full-price type of game," which is interesting given that it is a full $60. Sure, Shadows is $70, the new norm for Ubisoft and many other AAA games, but $60 is kind of toeing the line on what counts as "full-price." A lot of big games are still $60, after all; coming from Ubisoft, the price point seems to reflect an acknowledgement that this is ultimately a remake.
