New horror movie They Will Kill You has debuted to a solid Rotten Tomatoes score and mostly positive reviews ahead of its big-screen release later this week.

The movie currently has a score of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 23 reviews.

Directed by Kirill Sokolov and produced by IT: Welcome to Derry's Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the movie stars Zazie Beetz as an ex-convict who finds a job as a housekeeper in a New York City high-rise. Once she starts work, however, she realizes that the building has seen multiple disappearances over the years, and that not everything behind its doors is as it seems. The cast also includes Myha'la, Patricia Arquette, and Tom Felton.

"They Will Kill You is a total fucking blast from start to finish," critic Scott Menzel wrote on Twitter. "It’s the kind of movie that knows exactly what it is and fully embraces it. Completely batshit crazy, with everyone involved clearly all in. Zazie Beetz is an absolute badass, taking command of the screen and never letting go. What a way to close out SXSW 2026. This movie fucking rules."

"THEY WILL KILL YOU is one of the most metal movies you’ll see this year," another viewer posted after the movie's SXSW premiere. "KILL BILL meets READY OR NOT. Fun as hell and my god, the practical effects on display are seriously impressive. Blood geysers galore. Zazie Beetz was born to be an action star."

"The splatsick mania of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead 2 courses through the veins of Kirill Sokolov’s high-octane action horror comedy," Bloody Disgusting's Meagan Navarro wrote in her review. "Instead of a hapless hero, though, They Will Kill You unleashes an unstoppable force of nature in Zazie Beetz."

"They Will Kill You is a delightfully bonkers but fleeting thrill," Collider's Perri Nemiroff noted in a more mixed review. "However, it'll hopefully have staying power in one particular respect, cementing in the fact that Zazie Beetz is a top-tier action star.

However, not everyone was as positive. "Rapidly-diminishing returns, with derivative formal flourishes that largely recall other, better films," said Variety's Siddhant Adlakha. "It is, by the time its credits roll, completely exhausting."

They Will Kill You arrives in theaters on March 27. In the meantime, check out our guide to the other upcoming horror movies on the way in 2026.
