So yeah, we might have escaped the feared gritty, militaristic reboot, but it seems that the new SSX is still going to be quite the dark departure. Why? Because despite developer reassurances of a light, crazy atmosphere, these new screens from Gamescom confirm a covert survival horror reboot. Okay, maybe not, but there are ghosts and darkness and torches and sinister red glows (just like out of hell!), and franklythereare only so many headlines you can write about snow and Elise and this still being the SSX you know and love before it all gets a bit dull for everyone concerned. And I wouldn't do that to you. And I'm not resorting to crappy "new screens slide into view" style puns either.
So yeah, survival horror. That's the joke I'm using. Scroll on.
Above: GHOST! Okay, it's a saved player ghost from SSX's online competitions, but what ifthe player who recorded it is now dead?
Above: And imagine running into a saved player ghost in this dark tunnel. SPOOKY! Also, fires of hell ahead
Above: And a last-ditch helicopter escape. JUST LIKE IN RESIDENT EVIL. The mountain will now explode
