Fans of the Mass Effect trilogy have been chomping at the bit for more updates about the upcoming new addition to that universe. The EA Play press conference today was expected to give some new glimpses at what to expect from Mass Effect: Andromeda, and while the presentation did offer a bit of insight, there are still many questions.
Bioware General Manager Aaryn Flynn took the stage to show off a new behind-the-scenes look at the game. He posed a question: “how far will we go?” As previously hinted, the narrative is centered around humanity seeking a new home. They’ve traveled to the Andromeda galaxy, hoping it will be a new place to live.
Gameplay footage was light, but Flynn did promise that Andromeda would offer “more freedom than we’ve ever given players in a Bioware game.” Based on that, we’re expecting lots more in the vein of story choices. Could there be more changes in how Andromeda plays? Given how the original three games morphed across RPG and shooter genre boundaries, Bioware could have something very different in the works.
The clip showed a range of gorgeous space-scapes, highlighting some of the new planets players will see in Andromeda. From dusty deserts to lush red trees, the game is certainly promising a great look. It also hinted at some of the new characters and species that players will encounter in the galaxy. Some look friendly, like the impish character above. Others, like the huge ones with horns and claws and big teeth, look decidedly less so.
We’re still waiting on the studio to share more hard details, but these views will have to tide us over for the time being. Check out the whole video below.
