Colin Trevorrow talks Jurassic Park 4

Having been delayed a year from its initial 2014 release date, Jurassic Park 4 seems to be back up and running again, with director Colin Trevorrow giving an update on how things are coming along, and what he's aiming for with the sequel.

"Surprisingly it’s not that different," says Trevorrow in when asked to compare working on the film to making his indie breakout, Safety Not Guaranteed . "We have a very small team who we’re working with right now."

"It’s incredible to have Steven [ Spielberg ], who’s done this for decades and has such an incredible filmic knowledge and this understanding of the language of story – in a way that for us, is very refreshing. It’s not like getting notes from a studio executive."

As for how the sequel itself will take shape, Trevorrow is sensitive to how well loved the original remains, and says that the aim is to make something that can measure up to that first film.

“We don’t want to create a new scoop here," laughs Trevorrow, "but we really want to honour what came before us. We are very aware of how much a certain generation especially cares about this movie and we talk about it all the time in conversations."

"It’s not about us, it’s not about our careers, it’s 'how do we make something that can stand [ against the first Jurassic Park ]?'"

We'll find out whether he's managed it or not when the film arrives in summer 2015...
