Chlo Grace Moretz says Carrie delay was to make the film scarier

Reshoots designed to extend rather than cut

When Carrie ’s US release date was shunted back from March to October, it immediately seemed a marketing decision to launch the film during the Halloween season. However, according to Chloë Grace Moretz, there was more to it than that.

Naturally, an October release date is a better fit for a horror film, but Moretz claims they also needed time for reshoots designed to make the film scarier.

“We actually prolonged the film,” says Moretz. “We did some reshoots, and added three extra scenes with Julianne [ Moore ] and I to make the movie even deeper and darker.”

“We prolonged a couple of scenes that needed to have an extra moment or an extra beat just to make it even deeper," she continues. "It wasn’t about cutting anything out or trying to edit around things; it was about adding more to make the movie scarier and more intense.”

Directed by Kimberly Peirce and co-starring Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde and Portia Doubleday, Carrie will open a little later in the UK, with audiences having to wait until 29 November 2013 to get their scare on.
