Tom Cruise's Mummy reboot gets its first synopsis

Last year Universal rebooted their Jurassic Park franchise with record-breaking results, and the studio will be hoping for similar success with their reboot of The Mummy in 2017. We now have our first synopsis for the film - which is headlined by Tom Cruise - and you can check it out below...

"Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy. Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

"From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters".

Although it doesn't give much by way of plot specifics - understandable seeing as the film is still over a year away from release - the film's ambition definitely comes through in the synopsis. Here's hoping The Mummy turns out to be exactly the fun, imaginative thrill-ride Universal is promising.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman and starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe, The Mummy is due to open in cinemas on June 9, 2017.
