Like Avatar , Star Wars is heavily influenced by the original story of John Carter. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 1977 , George Lucas was quoted in said, “I wanted to make a space fantasy that was more in the genre of Edgar Rice Burroughs; that whole other end of space fantasy that was there before science took it over in the ’50s...”
