Serious Sam 3 gets a release date and opens serious pre-orders

Serious Sam 3: BFE is launching Oct 18, 2011 on PC and is available for pre-order on Steam now. Also known as “Before First Encounter,” SS3 is a prequel to the first Serious Sam game that should finally fill in all the missing lore and history of Sam's origin. If you'd like to get caught up on what we know so far, we'll give you the long version: Mental is a jerk and Sam is the only one on Earth tough enough to stop him. Now check out the insane action in the latest trailer below.

Aside from Sam's ability to dislodge cyclopean enemies' eyes with his bare hands and the constricting lighting-rope he can use to decapitate and eviscerate, there are some serious reasons to consider pre-ordering The first is that you'll get a timed exclusive multiplayer skin of the game's developer, Devolver Digital's CFO, Fork Parker — who wouldn't want to play as that guy? The other reason is that SS3 pre-orders are 10 percent off, and if you already have a Serious Sam game through Steam, you'll get another 10 percent off on top of that.

Above: this guy

Serious Sam 3 is a throwback to games developed in a time when cover hadn't been invented and health didn't regenerate. Guns were large and you could hold infinity of them. Enemies didn't have motivations. They had basic functional awareness and rocket launchers. For a more in-depth look at SS3 you can check our recent serious preview, but we don't know why you'd need to know anything else.

Parker's last way to encourage pre-ordering is a simple heartfelt promise between a game's creator and the player. In Parker's own words, “I pledge to take one dollar from each Serious Sam 3: BFE pre-order and put it towards my wife’s outrageously expensive tit job. So get to pre-ordering nerds, I want these babies to block out the sun when I’m done with them.”

So, there's that.
