Report claims new Alien FPS stars Ripley's daughter

Alien: Isolation, which Twentieth Century Fox filed a trademark application for last week, is the next game in the sci-fi franchise, according to a Kotaku source said to be familiar with goings-on at publisher Sega. Reportedly in development at Sega subsidiary The Creative Assembly and set for release on current and next-gen consoles in 2014, it’s described as and FPS featuring stealth and horror elements, inspired by titles like Dishonored and Bioshock.

In May 2011, Sega announced that Total War studio The Creative Assembly was working on a new action game in the Alien series. Mike Hayes, then Sega West boss, said at the time: "This is very much a triple-A project. We want this to be a peer to the likes of Dead Space 2."

According to Kotaku’s source, the game’s protagonist is Amanda, the daughter of Alien and Aliens hero Ellen Ripley. Much of the game is said to be set on a single space station. Inspired by the Ridley Scott film that launched the franchise, there's apparently only one alien for "most" of the game, meaning players will be using a lot of their bullets on "clones and soldiers." Vents, lockers, and melee weapons are said to feature heavily in the game.

Stung by the criticism of the Gearbox developed Aliens: Colonial Marines, Sega is said to be treading cautiously with the game in a bid to ensure it hits a higher quality bar. To that effect, the company apparently delayed plans to reveal the title at E3 in June. And with a first party studio working on the game, it will have better scope to oversee its development. The publisher declined to comment on Kotaku’s report.
