Lollipop Chainsaw sells 700,000 worldwide

Back in June, Lollipop Chainsaw released to an eager gaming public. The game had been highly hyped, but there were significant fears that the game might be lost on a public that may not appreciate Grasshopper Manufacture's...unique vision. After all, Lollipop Chainsaw is about as far from your typical zombie schlock as you can get.

Those fears seem to have been unfounded though as it was revealed today that Lollipop Chainsaw has sold over 700,000 copies in two and a half months on the market. There's no word yet on a sequel, but any niche title that goes on to sell big numbers like that is going to be in prime position to be spun into an ongoing franchise.

The sales numbers were surprising to many if only because Grasshopper Manufacture was the developer behind the project. The developer is known for bizarre games that cater to a very small niche. Previous notable games include Killer 7, No More Heroes, and Shadows of the Damned. All of which sold quite poorly.

Grasshopper said that 700,000 is the largest sales number they have yet achieved with one of their titles.

For our part, we enjoyed the game, but it didn't quite live up to the sky-high hype.
